Prov 25:11-13     A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.  Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise man’s rebuke to a listening ear.  Like the coolness of snow at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the spirit of his masters. What would a golden apple set in a silver setting be worth? How precious do we view pure, fine golden ornaments and jewelry made of fine gold? After a day of hare manual labor, where sweat is pouring from your brow, how refreshing would it be to feel the cool sensation of fresh falling snow all over you? These are the comparisons that Solomon gives for those who choose their words carefully and thoughtfully. They understand what to say in times of sorrow and what to say to show that they share in someone’s joys. They also recognize that sometimes it is necessary to correct friends and loved ones or even acquaintances. However, they always do so in love with the intent of protecting or assisting or encouraging those they correct. These same individuals refresh those they see each day. To what extent does this describe you? We all need to take more care in communicating with others. We all need to show empathy, compassion and care to those we interact with. Take the time today to reach out to others as you never have before and you will make an impact on the world around you.
