When Solomon had finished all these prayers and supplications to Yahweh, he rose from before the altar of Yahweh, where he had been kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven. He stood and blessed the whole assembly of Israel in a loud voice, saying: “Praise be to Yahweh, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses. May Yahweh our Elohim be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us. May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep the commands, decrees and regulations he gave our fathers. And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before Yahweh, be near to Yahweh our Elohim day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day’s need, 1 Kings 8:54-59

Under King Solomon, Israel’s existence took on international significance. The temple of Yahweh that he constructed was a magnificent structure and was a symbol of Israel’s growth on the international scene. Surely Yahweh did not need a temple. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as well as countless others had worshiped Him without such a building. The temple was to be a place of worship as well as a witness to the world. And it was started and completed by Solomon.

Despite his speech at the dedication of the temple, something happened to Solomon to change him. Somewhere, he stopped believing in Yahweh’s promises. Sometime he stopped trusting that Yahweh would always be there for him. Somehow he stopped inclining his heart toward Yahweh in every matter.

If Solomon, the wisest man to ever live and a man who had great faith and trust in Yahweh at one time, could change for the worse, what about you? We must always keep our guard high against becoming consumed by our accomplishments or being overwhelmed by the rigors of day-to-day life or being led astray by those who do not know and understand our Father.

Each day we must strive to begin, develop, and ultimately complete the projects Yahweh has for us to perform. All the while, we have to maintain the proper perspective. If Solomon fell, so could we. Make certain that you always labor in humility and with the love of Yahweh at the core of your existence. If Yahweh is first, He will always be for you. If Yahweh is for you, none can overcome you
