DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR APRIL 9, 2018

4/9/2018 John 6:26-27 Yahshua answered, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him Elohim the Father has placed his seal of approval.”

The world, especially those living in the western nations, are in a state of wealth as has never been experienced in the history of man. Despite the pictures of poverty portrayed in the news each day, more people have more personal possessions and excess income than ever before. The average size of a house becomes larger and larger with each passing year. More people have cars and earn more in wages than ever. Cell phones and other technological advances are in the possession of more and more people each day. And it is easy to become overly involved in acquiring more of these things in our lives. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were all quite wealthy men, as were many Bible personalities. However, each of these men ultimately came to understand that they had to put their prosperity into perspective. If they had not, we would not even know their names. They would have drifted off as nameless men in the annals of history. Certainly, there were men of their times who had wealth and had acquired more possessions. But these men looked ahead to something of far greater value than any earthly assets. Because of this vision, Yahweh had a special relationship with them. What about you? Have you fallen into the trap of filling physical needs first and failing to focus on spiritual development? Are you on the verge of doing so? Yahshua tells us to labor for the food that stays within our system — the food that is never used up by the body and never needs to be replenished. Do not neglect your obligations to family and loved ones. Always give an honest day’s labor for your wages. However, remember that the greatest wage you can receive is yet to be direct deposited into your account. Work for those wages and your account will always have a positive balance.
