DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR AUGUST 11, 2018 SHABBAT SHALOM

8/11/2018 Neh 6:10 One day I went to the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home. He said, “Let us meet in the house of Elohim, inside the temple, and let us close the temple doors, because men are coming to kill you — by night they are coming to kill you.”

Nehemiah was the governor of the province of Judah and was the overseer of the task of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Tobiah, Sanballat, and Noadiah, and countless others tried to disrupt his work and bring about its failure. They lied about him. They tried to deceive him. They even tried to use self-proclaimed messengers from Yahweh to discourage him. However, nothing could stop him from performing the job that he started. We too have a job to do. First, we are to be unquestioned pillars of strength in the faith. Next, we are to share the message of the good news to all who would hear. We can allow nothing to deter us from the job Yahweh has given. We too have enemies who will use various methods to prevent us from completing the job at hand. Be diligent in your resolve to serve Yahweh regardless of the barriers that Satan may place in your way. Be as committed to your calling as Nehemiah was to his.
