DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR MAY 10, 2022
Today is day 24 in our count to Pentecost!
When they had finished eating, Yahshua said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?”
“Yes, Master,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Yahshua said, “Feed my lambs.”
Again Yahshua said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Master, you know that I love you.”
Yahshua said, “Take care of my sheep.”
The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Yahshua asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Master, you know all things; you know that I love you.”
Yahshua said, “Feed my sheep. John 21:15-17
These verses to the casual reader may seem redundant. But in light of the Greek words used it loses its redundancy. The first two times Yahshua asks Peter if he loves Him, He is using the word agapao which means to love in a moral sense. Peter’s response all three times is that he phileos Yahshua, meaning a brotherly type of love. The third time Yahshua asks Peter, He is asking him do you phileo me, do you love me like a brother? This grieved Peter due to the fact that he thought he showed his brotherly love to Yahshua. Peter had denied that he knew Yahshua three times just prior to this. In luke 22:31-34 we see Yahshua telling Peter “that once you have turned again establish your brethren.” How do you show your love to Yahshua? He told us if you love me keep my commandments. By keeping the commandments we show Him that we love Him. Yahshua the great shepherd has such love for the sheep that Peter was instructed to feed the sheep. We like wise are instructed to feed the sheep, by encouraging them and leading them. Leading by example, just as Yahshua was our example.
