Daily Devotional for November 23, 2019 Shabbat Shalom
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Yahshua the Messiah is revealed. As obedient children do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Pet 1:13-16
Holiness is difficult to secure in the world we live in. Holiness implies purity of words, thought and action and may be viewed as both ritual as well as literal. We can think of purity and holiness as the state of spiritual cleanness.
Today, we constantly meet individuals who, for one reason or another, are in a Scripturally unclean state. We touch surfaces which are made from unclean animals. We work in environments which are totally unconcerned with the concept of clean verses unclean. We do the best that we can under these circumstances and Yahweh accepts our efforts to remain pure in an impure environment.
However, we can never allow ourselves to ignore the importance of achieving and maintaining holiness and purity through our own efforts and actions. We must be pure in thought, rejecting all thoughts that lead to impure actions. We must be pure in speech, avoiding all profane language. We must be pure in behavior, making decisions in our lives that reflect our alignment with the example of the life of our Savior Yahshua.
Again, we may not be able to achieve complete purity or holiness or to be in a clean state in this society or any other society in the world today. However, we are responsible for those thoughts, words, and behavior over which we have absolute control. Make certain that you strive for holiness which involves becoming more like our Creator who created us in His image.
