We normally perform a self examination prior to the cleansing and atoning sacrifices of Passover and the Day of Atonement. However, Paul shows that our lives each day must include self reflection and sincere self assessment. Examining one’s self involves scrutinizing one’s life—comparing it to the principles found in the sacred Scriptures. It involves looking closely and honestly at all of one’s thoughts and behavior and evaluating himself.

He asks questions that the witness may not have considered himself about the situation, but which are intended to encourage the witness to look more closely at the facts than they may already have. This is the approach we must take to our self examination.
Become a hard-nosed attorney with regard to your own life—one that is determined to get to the truth no matter how much it may hurt. Ask yourself the hard questions and accept the facts as they are revealed to you. This is the only way for you to know for certain that you are in the faith
