Daily Devotional for October 19, 2020
When Moses went and told the people all Yahweh’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, “Everything Yahweh has said we will do.” Moses then wrote down everything Yahweh had said.
He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel. Then he sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings to Yahweh. Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he sprinkled on the altar. Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, “We will do everything Yahweh has said; we will obey.”
Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that Yahweh has made with you in accordance with all these words.” Ex 24:3-8
Pentecost is the day on which this ratification of the covenant between Yahweh and Ancient Israel took place. While we will not consider it here since we just completed the feast of Tabernacles there is Biblical evidence to support this position. Today we remember our own agreement with Yahweh to show Him our love and respect and to express our dedication to Him through obedience to His laws, statutes, commandments and ordinances.
Ancient Israel failed to live up the terms of the covenant. They failed to live by every word that comes from the mouth of Yahweh. They failed to do according to His Word, they failed to keep the sabbatical year.
Every year on the day preceding the Passover, the Feast of Unleavened bread, and the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Tabernacles we have the opportunity to review our actions and rededicate ourselves to appreciating Yahweh’s Law as the foundation for all of our thoughts, actions, and behavior. Yahweh’s Law is not a burden but rather a guide for a better, happier and, most of all, more spiritual live.
Take the time today to express your thanks to Yahweh for giving His Law and for His role in your relationship with Him. It takes two to establish a covenant. He is faithful to His part. Are you?
