All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore Yahweh is not ashamed to be called their Elohim, for he has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:13-16
Some much emphasis and effort is put into this life, into the here and now, that we sometimes lose track of where we’re heading. Hebrews 11 is commonly known as the faith chapter. It’s speaks volumes about the people and the strong faith they had while they lived.
Notice though that our forefathers hadn’t received the promise and that they considered themselves aliens and strangers in the Earth. We also need to be reminded that this life that we’re striving in is not permanent. We have another life, another country to go to. A country made by Yahweh. This is life in the here and now is not our home. With that thought in mind, maybe we should concentrate on helping other people to make it through this life and into the next one instead of spending so much time and effort on this current life that is fleeting. Sure we should work to be able to eat and have a home for protection but is that where all our emphasis should be? You’ll have to decide for yourself.
