Daily Devotional for April 01, 2020
With what shall I come before Yahweh and bow down before the exalted Elohim? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will Yahweh be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does Yahweh require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your Elohim. Mic 6:6-8
Everything Yahweh requires of us is summarized in these three basic principles—to behave justly, to love mercy and to be humble. We are expected to give our tithes and offerings. We are expected to observe the Sabbath and Holy Days in their proper season. We are expected to eat a “kosher” diet. We are expected to obey the “613 Commandments”. But it all is summarized with these three standards.
Do you look at every situation and evaluate it as a judge would? A judge assesses the evidence, looks at precedence (that is, he looks at prior rulings and experiences [both his and the experience of others]), and takes time to evaluate the evidence before rendering a decision in a matter.
Are you merciful? Are you partial to mercy? Is it something you extend to others in each and every situation? When you love someone, you have a deep affection for them. Is this your view of mercy? Does mercy mean so much to you that you are uncomfortable being any other way? Being merciful is being compassionate, forgiving, mercy, sympathetic, lenient, understanding. Do you love exhibiting these traits?
Are you the center of your world or do you recognize that there are more important things and people than you? Do you think more of yourself than you should? Do you have a difficult time interrelating with others because of your faith or is it really because you are not humble? Humility allows you to interact favorably with others because it enables you to know that you do not have to be the most important or smartest, or best dressed or most well-versed or preeminent individual. The humble person realizes that everyone has worth and value and that we all play small important parts in Yahweh’s plan.
Each day do justly, love mercy and be humble before man and Yahweh.
